Welcome to our Autumn Equinox page!
The Autumnal Equinox is usually celebrated around September 22 and marks the second harvest of the year. The traditions of this holiday include giving thanks for the harvest with a community feast and bonfire. This is a time to enjoy with family and friends, marking the end of summer and the beginning of the colder seasons. At this time every year, we must proceed from the light part of the year to the dark, and in doing so, turn our attentions inward and homeward.
This ritual is a celebration of the holy fires that sit at the hearth and center of religious practice for so many religions. We will be reaching out to the fire deities of many Pagan lands while honoring Prometheus as the rite's patron as he is the one who brought the gift of fire to humanity in Hellenic myth. We will focus on the fire; doing worship and magic as a community gathered around the sacred hearth. Please feel free to bring a flammable, non-toxic offering for the beings which we will send them through the fire. This rite will help us to connect with the technology and spirituality of the ancient fires that have been key to human survival for millennium. If you would like a role in the rite or have any questions, please let us know on the RSVP.
We'll have a bonfire going in the backyard with lots of hangout time after dinner. HVGW will also be holding our traditional Autumn Food Drive, so please bring non-perishable, non-expired food and household goods for your donation if you plan to attend. All donations go to the State College Food Bank. Before you donate, see their website for a list of their current needs: https://scfoodbank.org/donate/current-needs-list
Thank you and we hope to see you there!
