Tea Time with the Baba Yaga

Welcome to our Samhain page! Please be aware this is a ticketed event.

Samhain is the Irish name for the celebration of the Winter Quarter day which was celebrated around November 1st starting at sunset on October 31st. It marked the beginning of the Dark half of the year and was the new year. This eventually became modern Halloween as immigrants from Scotland and Ireland brough their Christianized Samhain, All-Hallows Eve, with them to America. This was usually celebrated with divinations, guising, making offerings to the dead and spirits, and other festive activities. The Slavs too practiced an ancestor ritual around this time called Dziady. This holiday is deeply associated with magic, darkness, liminality, and magic-workers such as the stereotyped witch.

As we enter the Dark half of the year, we look to the matters of magic for the coming darkness. We shall gather, one and all, in the parlor of the famous Baba Yaga to take tea with the esteemed Grandmother of the Wild Woods. She will help us to turn our wills to what we need to do this Winter and bring forth wisdom. We hope you can join us for this exciting Tea Time ritual! Please bring your favorite Tarot deck, Oracle cards, Runes, Ogham, Bones, or other Divination tools.

Why is this holiday ticketed? It takes a lot of time and money to deliver high-quality Pagan events, classes, and holidays here in State College. Often the extra cost of some events falls on our Board and other volunteers who subsidize our work. To make things more equitable, we are ticketing to reduce the personal costs of this event. If you would like to help please email us at happyvalleygoldenwheel@gmail.com to volunteer for set-up or take-down. We also would appreciate donations to help us fund this and our other events. You can donate online here. Thank you for your continued support!
