Fire Circle
A little story about the making of our Fire Circle.
Our friend Sue has agreed to lend some of her farm to us to use for a fire circle.
The fire circle simply is a 25' diameter circle on the ground where we cleared out the grass and replaced it with sand. In the center, we build a fire. Around the fire we dance. Around the circle we make music. Around the music we make community.
Lammas 2011 was the inauguration of the fire circle.
Thursday, July 21, 2011 - the survey
Jeff, Holly, Amanda, Sarah and Caroline met Sue and Mei at the site and surveyed the area. Here we chose the site.
Saturday, July 30, 2011 - measurement + marking + brush kill + tarps
Jeff, Holly, Amanda and Zach met Sue and Mei at the site to measure and mark the area. Holly and Amanda brushkilled the circle while Sue, Zach, Mei and Jeff toured the area for sand options but struck out twice. Later we found more wood and rocks. Rocks to hold down the tarps to help kill the grass.
Monday, August 1, 2011 - first truckload
A few phone calls later, Sue found a site for gathering sand. Amanda and Holly help Sue bring the first truckload to the fire circle, and stored it temporarily on the tarps in the center of the circle.
Tuesday, August 2, 2011 - ponderings
Sarah finds the farm. Not much to do. A for effort.
Saturday, August 6, 2011 - the dig
Dawn, Jeff, Holly, Alyssa and Amanda meet on the farm and begin the dig.
Saturday, August 13, 2011 - Lammas and the final day of prep
