Welcome to our Autumn Equinox page!
The Autumnal Equinox is usually celebrated around September 22 and marks the second harvest of the year. The traditions of this holiday include giving thanks for the harvest with a community feast and bonfire. This is a time to enjoy with family and friends, marking the end of summer and the beginning of the colder seasons. At this time every year, we must proceed from the light part of the year to the dark, and in doing so, turn our attentions inward and homeward.
Our ritual this year will be focused around the Slavic tradition of Obzinky. Our rite will be an ADF-style ritual celebrating the harvest with the making of traditional sacred pancakes, facilitated by Reverend C. Oleg Wildridge. After ritual there will be a community potluck as we join together to seal the blessing with shared food and drink our Pagan Thanksgiving. This free event is family friendly and open to all ages. Please bring a dish to share for the potluck and BYOB. The house will provide a meal to attendees with both vegan and gluten-free options available.
We'll have a bonfire going in the backyard with lots of hangout time after dinner. HVGW will also be holding our traditional Autumn Food Drive, so please bring non-perishable, non-expired food and household goods for your donation if you plan to attend. All donations go to the State College Food Bank. Before you donate, see their website for a list of their current needs: https://scfoodbank.org/donate/current-needs-list
Thank you and we hope to see you there!
